The meeting of the Committee on European Integration with the ambassador of Sweden in Kosovo, Jonas Westerlund

The Committee on European Integration, chaired by Rrezarta Krasniqi, chairperson of this Committee, hosted the Swedish ambassador to Kosovo, Jonas Westerlund, with whom, the priorities of the Swedish presidency of the Council of the European Union, were discussed.

At the beginning of the meeting, the chairwoman of the Committee, Krasniqi, highlighted the good interstate relations, and expressed the gratitude to the Ambassador Westerlund, as well as the country he represents, for the help and care given to Kosovo, in all stages of its development.

The chairwoman of the Committee, Mrs. Krasniqi spoke about the commitments and priorities of the country's foreign policy.

On this occasion, she welcomed the decision of the Council of Ministers of the EU in favor of visa liberalization, meanwhile, she underlined Kosovo's efforts for membership in the Council of Europe, as well as the necessity for our country to be included in the Partnership for Peace programme of NATO.

The chairwoman Krasniqi spoke about the importance of recognizing Kosovo's independence by the five (5) EU countries, which have not yet done so, and requested that Sweden, as a friendly country of Kosovo, exercise its influence.

Ambassador Westerlund, first expressed his thankfulness to the hosts for the warm welcome, meanwhile, he focused on Russia's aggression against Ukraine. In this regard, he said that Russia, with its war against Ukraine, has caused a state of insecurity, and that its goal is: "To establish a new security order in Europe".

Following his speech, Ambassador Westerlund welcomed Kosovo's position to be in full harmony with the foreign policy of the EU member countries.

He also spoke about the priorities that the Swedish presidency of the Council of the European Union has. 

Ambassador Westerlund said that security will be the first priority, meanwhile, competition within the EU states, the green energy transition as well as the rule of law, will be the next priorities of the Swedish presidency of the Council of the European Union.

In conclusion of his speech, Swedish Ambassador Westerlund said that Sweden's support for Kosovo will continue in the future.

At the end, the other members of the Committee also took the floor, who also expressed their gratitude to Ambassador Westerlund for his commitment to the advancement of bilateral relations between Kosovo and Sweden.
