Current developments in Gjilan Municipality, reform of local authority as well as fulfillment of standards were the main topics in the meeting of the President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Prof. Nexhat Daci, with the President of Municipal Assembly of Gjilan, Xhemajl Hyseni, and Chief of Executive, Enver Muja. In the meeting, the Gjilan Municipality was deemed a very good example of fulfillment of standards as well as developing inter-ethnic relationships. The Municipal leadership of Gjilan determined that in this municipality the primary issue is minority integration in all work and life courses, minority members to be equal citizens.
Regarding the decentralization process they said that the proposal regarding the Partesh to become sub-municipality wasn™t from municipal structures. The Municipality of Gjilan supports the reformation process of local authority and experiments in this field, but it doesn™t agree at all to a pilot project for the Serbs of Anamorava to regroup and separate the Municipality in two.
Furthermore, the municipal leadership referred to some parameters of minority participation in employment in this Municipality. Thus, the employment level of minorities is 24 percent, versus 19 percent in the general population.
For all these results, the Head of Kosovo™s legislature, Nexhat Daci, congratulated the municipal leadership regarding their engagement on further developments. As a municipality that extends the triangle Kosovo “ Serbia “ Macedonia, he encouraged the Gjilan leadership to be open to these regions, for opening new roads, to enable a better economic development of this region.
Simultaneously with the decentralization project, the President of the Assembly said that this process has got support, but that doesn™t mean that every pilot project will be successful, because we need to register the separation between the population and the administration. This can not be done by administrative decisions, since these issues are determined from other elements that should be taken into account. On this occasion, the municipal leadership once again invited the President of the Assembly to visit Gjilan, which invitation was happily accepted.
