The President of the Parliament Daci welcomed SRSG, Petersen

The President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Nexhat Daci today, welcomed the Special Representative of Secretary General of UN in Kosovo, Soren Jessen-Petersen and has discussed with him about the developments in Kosovo, in the light of preparedness of the local and international factor on definition of the status of Kosovo. Meanwhile, was also discussed about the visit of Petersen in New York and for the yesterday™s and today™s session.

The President of the Parliament was satisfied that the Presidential Declaration of the President Rugova was approved and for the strong support of the international union on definition of the status of Kosovo. He has emphasized that there have been established many arguments on the necessity of the independence of Kosovo and was convinced that these arguments will be similar progressed by position and opposition. Talking about some voices that maybe the negotiation group of Kosovo will be obliged to defer from the proclaimed aim of independence, Daci has said that Kosovo is ready for negotiations, but not to negotiate the issue of independence. No one in Kosovo has reasons to believe that we can agree with less than independence, was strictly expressed Daci. He went on adding that Rambuje is part of the history, which can not be repeated.

The Head of Legislature talking about the process of status definition of the country has emphasized that there will be established working groups for all matters: for war reparations, for property rights, human rights, international obligations of the country, for protection of cultural livestock of minorities and for equal opportunity of minorities for life, security, business, education etc.

The Special Representative of General Secretary of UN in Kosovo, Soren Jessen-Petersen has estimated this current moment as historic when the discussion of the status of Kosovo starts and has emphasized that you can™t let off this opportunity for Kosovo. He once more requested unification of institutions™ opinions and policy subjects of Kosovo for the issue of the status and to find possibilities that also representatives of the minorities to participate in working bodies of negotiation group.

Petersen was very optimist that the Assembly will find the path of harmonization of subjects™ opinions that participate regarding the issue of the status. He also mentioned the possibility that the Assembly should have a special session in order to estimate all what has been done for the preparations of the negotiation group of Kosovo.
